Crucial 3-game Shakey’s V-League bill slated

MANILA, Philippines–A rejuvenated Far Eastern University looks to clinch a quarterfinal spot Thursday when it takes on Perpetual Help in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.   The Lady Tamaraws gun for a fourth straight victory against the Altas in the first game at 2 p.m.   Ateneo and Lyceum also seek spots to the next round as they battle St. Benilde and National U, respectively.   In third spot with a 3-1 record, the Lady Eagles hope to ride on the momentum of their stirring five-set victory over the Lady Pirates when they battle the winless Lady Blazers at 4 p.m.   Although foiled by the Lady Eagles last Sunday, the Lady Pirates, with the experienced Mary Jean Balse and Dahlia Cruz at the helm, are still favored against the Lady Bulldogs in the 6 p.m. game.   San Sebastian-Excelroof and Adamson had earlier booked tickets to the next round following straight-set victories last Sunday.   A loss would mean another early vacation for the Lady Blazers, who remain winless in five matches.   The Lady Tamaraws are in the middle of a remarkable turnaround from a six-game losing slump.   With a 1-4 slate, the Lady Altas need to sweep their last two games to force at least a playoff for the last quarterfinal slot while the Lady Bulldogs, at 2-3, remain in contention.   Ateneo is hoping that Thai import Surasuwadee Boonyuen sustains her brilliant form against St. Benilde. Surasuwadee, a member of the Thailand national pool, struck for 23 points against the Lady Pirates.
