UAAP Baseball: Ateneo opens four-peat bid on winning note

Ateneo opened its quest for a fourth straight championship with a 7-3 victory over Adamson University in the UAAP Season 78 baseball tournament Thursday.

Paulo Macasaet’s key hit sent Pelos Remollo and Ryon Tionloc home to put the Blue Eagles ahead, 4-2, in the fourth inning and never looked back for their first win in the match that went into darkness at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

National University hammered out a 8-7 win over De La Salle in extra innings for a winning start .

A huge single by Keneth Rex Ybañez sent home Floro Nalit Jr. to give the Bulldogs the lead at the middle of the 10th inning which turned out to be the winning moment in the match that lasted for more than four hours.

University of Santo Tomas, with Lesmar Ventura striking out 13 batters, nipped University of the Philippines, 5-4, in the curtain raiser.

In softball, titleholder Adamson extended its remarkanle softball winning run to 64 following a 7-4 decision over UP.

NU blanked UE, 6-0, to grab the solo lead with a 3-0 card, while UST whipped Ateneo, 8-0, in six innings to notch its second win in three contests.
