De La Salle University rolled to its second straight win after cruising past University of the Philippines, 25-14, 25-13, 19-25, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament Saturday at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Mary Joy Baron scored 17 points, highlighted by four blocks, for the Lady Spikers, who rose to 2-0 after turning back Far Eastern University in three sets last Wednesday.

“She really played well today. As a senior, that’s what I expect her to do,” said DLSU head coach Ramil de Jesus of his third-year middle hitter out of Baguio City National High School.

Fittingly, it was the lengthy Baron who sealed the victory for La Salle.

Isa Molde had 15 points to lead the Lady Maroons, who played with more fire in the last two sets after playing listless in the first two.

“You can’t take a team like UP for granted. You have to respect the. Most of their players are rookies but when you look at their level of play, it’s no joke,” de Jesus said in Filipino.

La Salle got a lift from Ernestine Tiamzon, who had 13 points. Ara Galang also tallied 13 points in just her second game back from an ACL injury.

Carol Cerveza and Mika Reyes added 12 and 10 points, respectively for La Salle.
