Valdez scores 23 as Lady Eagles beat Tigresses

Defending champion Ateneo turned back University of Santo Tomas, 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15, in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at San Juan Arena.

Alyssa Valdez scored 23 points to lead the Lady Eagles, who hiked their record to 2-0 after beating the National University Lady Bulldogs in three sets exactly a week ago.

Jho Maraguinot added 12 points for Ateneo while Amy Ahomiro chipped in eight, four coming off blocks.

The Lady Eagles ran away from a close match in the fourth set as they turned a slim 13-10 lead to a commanding 23-13 advantage following a hit by Valdez.
