JOBIM Carlos used a big lead to cushion a shaky finish yesterday and win a second straight title, his final round one-under-par 71 enough to thwart Justin Quiban by two shots in the 21st E Express RVF Cup Amateur golf championships at Canlubang North in Laguna.

The pro-bound 23-year-old Carlos added the championship to his national stroke play title despite dropping three shots in his last four holes for a 284 total in the event held in honor of the late golf patron Rod V. Feliciano.

Quiban, the national pool member, rallied with a 69 for second spot with Japan’s Yuto Katsuragawa, who lost a six-stroke lead to Carlos after the second round on Thursday, shooting a 75 to finish third, another three strokes back.

While Carlos needed to hold off a foe in the end, the irrepressible Princess Superal won the ladies division with plenty to spare after closing out with a 68.

Superal went bogey-free in windy conditions for a 285 total and a staggering 12-shot win over Bernice Olivares-Ilas, her The Country Club teammate who shot a 73.

It was the seventh straight tournament triumph for Superal, swing guru Bong Lopez’s foremost ward.

Filipino-Japanese Yuka Saso and reigning stroke play champion Harmie Constantino shared third at 298 after a 70 and 75, respectively.

Luis Castro, the first round leader in men’s play, shot a 72 for 293, with Carl Corpus firing a 71 for 297. Musong R. Castillo
