LA SALLE got back on track as it coasted past Adamson University, 25-13, 25-13, 25-16, to seize solo hold of second spot yesterday in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
After a surprise setback to National University Wednesday, the Lady Spikers booked their third win in four contests to stick close to defending champion Ateneo (3-0).
“The players showed interest in getting back after losing [to NU],” said La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus. “I’m glad they delivered and executed everything we asked them to do.”
In the other match, Toni Rose Basas delivered 19 points off kills and collected six digs while Remy Palma added 12 points as Far Eastern University kept a lock on University of Santo Tomas rookie Cherry Rondina to beat the Tigresses, 25-22, 25-18, 15-25, 25-23.
FEU held the spitfire Rondina to just 14 points to even its record to 2-2 card.
Mika Reyes chipped in four of the Lady Spikers’ 10 blocks, with Majoy Baron and rookie May Luna combining for six.
Ara Galang led the way for the Lady Spikers with 10 hits and five digs while Baron added nine points.
Aside from tossed in 18 excellent sets, veteran playmaker Kim Fajardo also delivered on offense with nine points, her final one coming from a combination play from Reyes midway in the third set.
Jema Galanza and Mylene Past had a miserable day for the Lady Falcons, finishing only with six and three points, respectively.
May Roque was the only lone bright spot for Adamson with nine hits.
