UP QRS/JAM Liner trounced Mindanao, 100-75, to put an end to its woes in the 2016 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup Monday at San Juan Arena.
Raymond Aguilar captained the Maroons’ balanced attack with a double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Juneric Baloria got 18 markers and eight boards.
“It’s always good to win the game. With two or three good teams in here, we just want to be the fourth team. We’re just glad to be 3-2 at this point,” said UP team consultant Joe Ward as his team took solo fourth place after the victory.
Gelo Alolino finished with 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists, Kevin Ferrer had 15 markers, six boards, and four dimes, and Raul Soyud added 11 in the blowout win.
UP came out firing, opening the game with a 13-0 salvo behind Aguilar, who set the tone. The Maroons coasted to the easy victory and even led by as much as 32, 71-39 in the third quarter.
“To win is a good thing. We learned a good lesson last week playing against Phoenix: If you don’t move and share the ball, you won’t win. That was a good lesson for us,” said Ward.
Jul-Ashri Ignacio led the cellar-dwelling Mindanao Aguilas (0-4) with 17 points.
