After five tries, AMA University finally got the win it badly worked for after edging Wangs Basketball, 97-90, Thursday in the 2016 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at Ynares Sports Arena.
Jammer Jamito captained the charge for the Titans with 24 points and 18 rebounds, while RR de Leon added 22 markers.
Jerramy King came a rebound short of a triple-double as he finished with 12 points, 14 assists, and nine boards to put his team up to 1-4.
“Siguro nasustain lang namin ngayon yung endgame. Yun kasi ang nagiging problema namin parati,” said coach Mark Herrera. “Sana magtuloy-tuloy na.”
After AMA held a commanding 19-point, 64-45 lead midway in the third, John Tayongtong, Francis Munsayac, and James Mangahas helped the Couriers crawl back and trim the lead down to five numerous times in the payoff period.
However, Rashawn McCarthy and Jamito were there to douse Wangs’ fightback in the final minute to finally get the elusive victory.
Mangahas paced the Couriers (1-5) with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Tayongtong poured 14 of his 16 markers in the fourth frame.
Clark Bautista also had 16 in the loss.
