UP blanks UE, bags first win in UAAP Football

University of the Philippines subdued University of the East, 2-0, to claim its first win in the UAAP Season 78 men’s football tournament Saturday at the McKinley Hill Stadium.

Raphael Resuma’s 18th minute strike from an assist by Roland Saavedra opened the scoring for the Fighting Maroons.

Vincent Aguilar then blasted a late goal, scoring it straight to the bottom right corner, in the 89th minute to clinch it for UP.

The Maroons, who missed rookie JB Borlongan and Christian Lapas due to national team U-19 duties in China, now has four points in fifth place.

The Red Warriors, who have yet to score a goal this season, remained with a lone point.
