Graduating Reyes learning from younger teammates

Even in her final playing year with La Salle, Mika Reyes continues to learn.

Reyes pointed out her third-year teammate Mary Joy Baron as someone she works well with despite her being the older of the two.

And before having earned the right to lead the team, Reyes said she had to make herself better first.

“She (Baron) is a big help to me and of course to the team. She reminds me what to do. She’s younger than me but it doesn’t mean that she can’t tell me what to do.”

“We work everything as a team first,” Reyes said Sunday after sweeping University of the East. “But my perspective is to start with myself first before I go and help others.”

Reyes is also not the one to boss her teammates around. She added it’s her job to not only teach on-court skills to her younger teammates but also mentor them outside of it.

“We have seniors in the team and we want to help our younger teammates inside and outside the court.”
