Mac Belo ushered in a fourth quarter barrage to lift Phoenix-FEU to a 90-74 victory over BDO-NU Monday in the 2016 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at San Juan Arena.
Belo dropped 14 of his 19 points in the payoff period as the Accelerators broke loose from a 63-61 lead at the start of the quarter to hold a 19-point edge, 82-63, late in the frame thanks to a 19-2 tear.
The 6-foot-4 forward Belo, who set a D-League record 41 points in a losing effort last week, also had six rebounds.
“Our loss against Caida was a wakeup call,” said coach Eric Gonzales as Phoenix-FEU tied Caida Tile for second place at 4-1. “We have to play consistent basketball both on offense and defense. Even if you don’t shoot, as long as we move the ball, I’m happy.”
Gonzales was referring to his team’s 108-91 loss to Caida exactly a week ago.
Mike Tolomia tallied a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds while Raymar Jose got 14 points.
J-Jay Alejandro topped BDO-NU (1-4) with 20 points, while Alfred Aroga failed to carry the Bulldogs despite his 19 markers and 19 rebounds.
