PH team triathletes dominate PNG

John Leerams Chicano got his race plan down pat to capture the men’s elite crown in the triathlon competition of the Philippine National Games (PNG) at Subic Bay Freeport Zone over the weekend.

Chicano, a 24-year-old national team member, pulled away in the final leg just as planned to rule the 1.5K swim-40K bike-10K run in two hours and 33 seconds.

Fellow national team member Jonard Saim finished over three minutes behind with a 2:03.44 clocking, while Mark Anthony Hosana rounded out the podium finishers with a time of 2:06.19.

“I felt confident that I would win,” said Chicano.  “Jonard wasn’t able to get too far ahead in the swim leg and we were all together at the bike. I really planned to pull away from them at the run leg.”

Claire Adorna, the 2015 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, dominated the women’s division in 2:30.21.

Vicky Deldio, also a national team mainstay, wound up as a distant second placer at 2:43.50.
