NCC-Bulacan chessers stay at the helm
GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Third seed Novelty Chess Club-Bulacan salvaged a draw with top seed Bobby Pacquiao C Tuesday to ward off its pursuers going to the final round of the Bobby D. Pacquiao Random Chess Tournament at SM City Trade Hall 2 here.
Kelly Rancap and Louie Salvador played hero for NCC-Bulacan when they hurdled Kevin Mirano and Elnathan Emilio in boards 3 and 4, respectively, compensating for the losses absorbed by NM Roel Filipinas and Marc Christian Nazario to GM Jayson Gonzales and Alfredo Rafanot in boards 1 and 2.
The draw pushed unbeaten NCC-Bulacan’s total to 11 points, one up on Pacman Team A, Gensan Omicrons, Nica Team Ilonggo and Elegant Houses in Pampanga, all with 10 points.
Pacman A routed Cotabato Province, 3.5-0.5; the Ilonggos clobbered SLVP, 3-1; and Elegant Houses in Pampanga drubbed Novelty School of Chess-Quezon City, 3-1.
