Sports officials are mourning the death of former Philippine volleyball chief and congressman Victorico “Concoy” Chavez who passed away last Feb. 18. He was 83. Chavez was president of the Philippine Amateur Volleyball Association, predecessor of the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, from 1986 to 1995. Under his term, the country won its last Southeast Asian Games gold medal in 1993. “We’ll remember him for his leadership,” said Ramon “Tats” Suzara, PAVA secretary general under Chavez’s tenure.
