Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reduced a press conference to chuckles on Wednesday when he told his players to be “horny” when they face FC Midtjylland in the Europa League.

United trail the Danish champions 2-1 from the first leg of their last-32 tie and when he set out what he expected from his team in Thursday’s game at Old Trafford, the Dutchman provided a bizarre response.

“Desire and hunger. A lot of times I use the word horny to my players,” said 64-year-old Van Gaal.
