University of the East’s woes continued on Saturday after a loss to Adamson in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament as the Lady Warriors’ losing skid reached 52 dating back to 2012

But make no mistake, UE has been showing improvement in its second year under head coach Francis Vicente.

And Vicente, the architect of National University’s transformation from laughing stock to contenders, believes it’s only a matter of time before the Lady Warriors learn how to win.

“In terms of the fighting spirit, yes, I’m very happy. In terms of result, of course I really wanted to win this game,” Vicente told INQUIRER.net after UE gave Adamson a challenge before losing in straight sets.

“The problem is they just can’t finish games. But they’re getting there. Patience, just patience,” he added.

UE sank to 0-7 in the season but Vicente and his crew have kept their head above water with the second round of eliminations also giving more opportunities for the team to be better.

“Maturity. They have to be matured enough to handle everything. Problems, physically, mentally, emotionally, everything. They should learn not to rely on other people but themselves,” Vicente said on what UE has to improve on heading into the second round.

Vicente said UE is still searching from some consistency but it won’t be long before his players get into a stride as the season goes along.

“They’ve been inconsistent, but it’s a positive sign because next it will be consistent. If they will always fight, all throughout, any time they can win,” he said.

“I can see that they’re really improving. It’s just that they’ve been on and off.”
