Star Hotshots head coach Jason Webb assessed his team’s current situation following another loss on Sunday.

Webb didn’t mince his words, didn’t sugarcoat anything and he fully understands that the Hotshots’ playoff chances are bleak.

The rookie coach is also not counting out his team even though the odds are stacked against the Hotshots, who slid to 1-4 after a sorry 92-87 defeat to the Barangay Ginebra Kings.

“We’re not in good shape, but we’re not dead,” Webb admitted. “We’re in a tough spot. I’m not gonna lie. We can’t do anything about it. We’re 1-4, but the only thing we can do is to get victories and see what happens.”

Webb did see some positives in the duel with mentor coach Tim Cone.

“I think we’re really good defensively today. We were good offensively, but again, we didn’t get the breaks. They made the key shots, we missed the key shots. They got some 50-50 calls go their way, we didn’t get any. That’s just how it is,” he said, lamenting on his team’s missed chances down the stretch.

“We need some luck. We’re there but we just can’t seem to get that one stop or that one basket that we badly need,” he said. “I think we looked good today, but we did get any luck. You hope that it translates to wins, but it didn’t. We can’t do anything about it.”

“We are due, super due for some good things to happen to us. You can’t even say that the shots we got were bad shots in the end. We’re hoping that a couple of breaks go our way in all shapes and forms.”

With five games already done, Webb is still optimistic that Star will eventually solve its woes and that the Hotshots’ fate will remain in their hands.

“We want to handle our own business. If we can get victories, hopefully it will be in succession at some point,” he said.

“We’re going for victories. We’re going for wins, period. We don’t care where we fall as long as we win.”
