UAAP softball: Adamson’s 73-game win streak snapped by UST

The current longest streak in the UAAP has finally reached its end.

University of Santo Tomas took down defending champion Adamson, 6-2, and stopped the Lady Falcons’ 73-game winning run in the UAAP softball tournament Wednesday at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Lady Falcons also had their 11-game streak in Season 78 snapped just as they were looking for another outright Finals berth in the last game of the elimination round.

The Tigresses were poised to win it via mercy rule as they led 6-0 midway in the fifth inning.

The Lady Falcons were able to stop the bleeding after Queeny Sabobo slammed her first home run of the season to cut down the deficit to 1-6.

Adamson scored another late run but its efforts to extend the game proved to be futile as the Lady Falcons ended the elims with a 11-1 card.

Not only did the Tigresses played the role of streak busters, they also forged a playoff for the No. 2 spot with National University.

The Tigresses and the Lady Bulldogs clash in a playoff for the remaining twice-to-beat slot on Saturday.

University of the Philippines bagged the last Final Four berth with an abbreviated 8-1 win over Ateneo.

The Lady Maroons ended up at 5-7 and will face the twice-to-beat Lady Falcons in the semifinals next week in a rematch of last year’s Finals.

University of the East doused De La Salle’s hopes of making it to the semis via the backdoor with a 3-1 win.

The Lady Warriors and the Lady Archers ended up at 4-8, while the Lady Eagles finished last with a 2-10 slate.
