Reigning Philippine Superliga Grand Prix champion Foton is planning an intensive six-month training ahead of its stint in the Asian Women’s Volleyball Club Championships to be held here on Sept. 3 to 11.

Foton, which stopped league giant Petron for the title last year, will be blended with players from other teams and hire foreign players to beef up the national squad.

“We know that we are not only going to carry our company’s name but, more importantly, the country’s name when we compete this time,” said Foton team manager Alvin Lu.

He said Foton management plans to have the foreign players come over earlier to better establish chemistry with the local standouts.

“We are determined to do what it takes to come up with a worthy performance,” said Lu, who has started reaching out to the other teams. “We are in agreement that we should field a strong team to represent the country.” Marc Anthony Reyes
