Napa keeps job as NU Bullpups coach

Jeff Napa, who is set to be named as the head coach of the Letran Knights, will still call the shots for the National University Bullpups.

Napa, who just steered the Bullpups to their third UAAP championship in five seasons last Friday, will be formally introduced as the Knights new coach in a press conference on Tuesday at the Letran campus in Intramuros, Manila.

“As long as he still focuses on our juniors program, it’s okay,” said NU board member Nilo Ocampo.

Napa won’t have to deal with any scheduling conflict with the NCAA basketball season running from July to October while the UAAP juniors basketball is played from January to March.

Ocampo, who also serves as NU’s campus management director, praised Napa, an NU alumnus, for his dedication to the school in handling the juniors team.

“He did the right thing, the right formula for recruitment and he got the right coaching staff,” he said. “Seeing other Bullpups in the other schools is a testament to his program. He’s doing the right thing.”

Napa doesn’t think handling two head-coaching jobs will be a problem.
