LINGAYEN, Pangasinan—The province is hosting the 2016 Philippine National Games, which was opened on Monday by Governor Amado Espino Jr. and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chair Ricardo Garcia at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Complex.

Around 2,500 athletes and coaches from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are participating in the event.
Espino said such was the first National Games to be held outside Metro Manila.
Most of the games are being played at the sports complex.

Garcia said winners of the events would represent the country in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games. RAM
