Slowly but surely hitting top form, Petron overwhelmed F2 Logistics, 25-14, 25-15, 25-16, Thursday for its second successive win in the 2016 PLDT Home Ultera Philippine Superliga (PSL) Invitational Conference at FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Tri-Activ Spikers showed none of the erratic play that hounded them in their tournament debut, coming out strong right from the get-go to deal the Cargo Movers only their second loss in five matches.
The loss hurt the Cargo Movers’ chances of making the final round where the Top 3 will join a Thai team in disputing the crown.
“We improved our passing and service,” said Petron coach George Pascua. “F2 (Logistics) was out of sync because we were able to pack our service game with power.”
It took Petron just 68 minutes to put away F2 as Bang Pineda and Aizo Maizo-Pontillas joined forces in finding gaps on the Cargo Movers’ floor defense. Pineda also had 10 digs that went with 12 points.
Maizo-Pontillas, who spearheaded the four set win over Cignal last Tuesday, and Aganon contributed 10 hits for the Tri Activ Spikers who had a total of nine service aces.
“If you take a look at its lineup, F2 Logistics is more skilled than us,” said Pascua.
“But we prepared hard for them.”
Aby Maraño led F2 with eight points.
