La Salle showed it’s all business when it wants to get even.
Looking all serious, the Lady Spikers dominated University of Santo Tomas in every aspect for a 25-11, 25-13, 25-17 rout yesterday that avenged their shock loss in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
“It feels good that we redeemed ourselves,” said top performer Kim Dy after the Lady Spikers reclaimed a share of the No. 1 spot with idle Ateneo at 7-2, while atoning for their first-round upset loss to the Tigresses, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21.
“We prepared for it, we had one week,” added Dy. “And it really showed [in our game] how we prepared for it.”
The Lady Spikers made it look like a no-contest early as they overwhelmed the Tigresses on attacks (33-16) and blocks (13-3).
“They didn’t want to lose,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus, who leaned on the solid outings of Dy (12 points), Ara Galang (11) and Mika Reyes (11).
Resurgent University of the Philippines downed Adamson also in straight sets, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22, to keep solo third at 6-3.
Crack rookie Diana Carlos and Kathy Bersola combined for 24 points for the Lady Maroons, whose fourth straight win spoiled the debut of Adamson’s interim coach Domingo Custodio.
Custodio, who calls the shots for the men’s team, took over following the surprise resignation of coach Sherwin Meneses.
