UST coach wanted to ‘surrender’ in loss to La Salle
It wasn’t the best of moments for University Santo Tomas head coach Kung Fu Reyes.
Reyes watched in horror as the the Lady Spikers obliterated the hapless Golden Tigresses Saturday night.
Article continues after this advertisement“Kung puwede nga lang magtapon ng tuwalya gagawin ko na (If it was possible to throw in the towel, I would have),” Reyes said as his team suffered a 25-11, 25-13, 25-17 meltdown Saturday at San Juan Arena.
Reyes said he could’ve opted to “surrender” the first set and rest his players for the following period, but it’s not allowed in volleyball.
“Parang surrender na. (It was like we were ready to surrender.)”
Article continues after this advertisementAfter the Golden Tigresses swept the Lady Spikers to end the first round and the Red Warriors to start the second, they could have extended their win streak to three, but La Salle was hungry for revenge.
Reyes’ girls could only manage 16 points off spikes and committed 22 errors while his two stars EJ Laure and Cherry Rondina never reached the double-digit mark.
“Na-blangko kami,” Reyes said. “Maganda bawi ni La Salle, kahit ako naman La Salle ganun din gagawin ko.”
“Yung pinakita nila nung nanalo kami parang preview lang yun nung ginawa nila sa Ateneo.”
