Sherwin Meneses has spent his whole volleyball life at Adamson University but on Thursday news broke the Falcon-lifer has quit his post, leaving the Lady Falcons without that “father” they have come to love.

It isn’t the best of seasons for the Lady Falcons who are now sitting at the seventh place with a 3-6 record and the departure of Meneses just made things a little heart wrenching.

Team captain Mylene Paat knew they could not force Meneses to retract his resignation and that it’s the decision they have to live with.

“Respeto na lang decision niya, sabi naman niya nandiyan siya lagi at di naman niya kami iiwan,” Paat said who later broke down in tears while talking about her former mentor. “Kung anuman desisyon niya rerespetuhin namin.”

“Before niya ipasa resignation ayun kinausap niya kami at before niya ipasa nag iyakan kaming lahat.”

Jema Galanza said she had felt Meneses would eventually file for resignation but she never entertained the idea they would part their ways in the middle of the season.

Paat, Galanza, and the other Lady Falcons played their first game without Meneses on Saturday with Falcons head coach Domingo Custodio serving as their tactician on an interim basis until the tournament concludes.

With them during the game was an “S” stamp on their arms, an idea veteran Erika Alkuino thought off, but University of the Philippines doused their little party with a devastating sweep.

Galanza said she will miss Meneses’ father-like disposition in their practices but one thing she would never forget is the advice, and motivational piece, he gave her.

“Maririnig ko siya lagi na ‘kaya mo yan, matapang kang bata eh,’ yun ang huli niyang sinabi sa akin,” Galanza said. “Bilib siya sakin kahit na-da-down ako.”
