PROVING she’s just as strong in another sporting challenge, teen-aged triathlete Vicky Deldio took the overall title in the 2nd Atleta Ako Women’s Aquathlon last Sunday at Philsports Complex in Pasig.
Deldio, a Philippine youth team ace, bested over 300 racers to top the 500m swim-5K run with a time of 31 minutes and eight seconds.
“I managed to improve my swim which helped me going into the run,” said Deldio, who also copped the 18-24 age group title.
Bea Grabador, who took the 25-29 age group honors, checked in second to Deldio in 33:38.
Lyllian Grace Banzon rounded out the top three in 34:35.
“We are happy to see that the race attracted a record field of 328 girls and women while highlighting the Philippine Sports Commission’s Women in Sports program,” said AtletaAko.com owner Cecil Hufana.
The event, organized by Bike King, was staged in celebration of the International Women’s Month and the women’s sports program spearheaded by PSC commissioner Akiko Thomson-Guevara.
