LA SALLE hopes it won’t fall victim to an overachieving University of the Philippines squad that had brought down heavyweights in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
“We know that UP is a young squad, but when you look at their performance now, it belies their age,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.
The Lady Spikers take one the Lady Maroons at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
A win will give La Salle a share of the lead with Ateneo at 8-2, but a loss will put the Lady Spikers into a tie with the Lady Maroons at 7-3 and second spot.
University of Santo Tomas, running sixth at 4-5, tangles with struggling Adamson in the other match at 2 p.m.
Freshmen Isa Molde, Diana Carlos and Justine Dorog have been sensational for the Lady Maroons, who still have a strong shot at clinching the twice-to-beat semifinal advantage.
“Win or lose, we’re just after the improvement of the team,” UP coach Jerry Yee said of the Lady Maroons, who count the defending champion Lady Eagles among their victims.
UST coach Emilio Reyes, meanwhile, hopes the Tigresses recover from a lopsided loss to the Lady Spikers.
In men’s division, La Salle (3-6) and UST (4-5) collide at 10 a.m., after Adamson (6-3) and Far Eastern University (5-4) tangle at 8 a.m.
