Gilas Pilipinas fans have a chance to be one with the national team with the newest line of team apparel.

Smart Sports and MelMac Sports Management forged a partnership for the official Gilas apparel and merchandise, giving fans an avenue to show their support in preparation for the Manila Olympic Qualifying Tournament in July.

The two announced the deal in a short press conference on Wednesday morning in Libis.

“Gilas is more than just the players. It has also become a brand on its own,” said MelMac Sports CEO Mel Macasaquit.

Part of the revenue from the merchandise will go to the grassroots development program of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

“We’re doing this for the passion that we have for the sport,” added Macasaquit.

Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tab Baldwin was on hand for the launch and said that the clothing line fits the Gilas campaign.

“It isn’t just about branding, but this is very much about the whole campaign of Gilas, what it means to this country,” he added. “This merchandise is the best way for people to enjoy the Gilas, to be part of the Gilas brand, and be part of the Gilas family, and also in a small way, gives back to the future of this game for the country.”

The official Gilas apparel is now available at all Robinson’s department stores and can also be purchased online at Takatack.com and at roving stores equipped with PayMaya Swipe terminals, formerly Smart eMoney.

Kiosk outlets will also be available in April on select SM outlets, while the apparel will hit the department stores in May.

“That’s our commitment to Gilas and proceeds of the revenue will help the grassroots program of the SBP,” said Aldous Brigino, PayMaya senior manager for business development.
