KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. — Roger Federer has decided to play in the Miami Open, which starts next week.

Federer’s agent, Tony Godsick, on Thursday announced the plans of the 17-time Grand Slam tournament champion. Federer had surgery for torn knee cartilage last month and hasn’t played since losing to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Australian Open.

The injury kept him from playing tournaments in Rotterdam, Dubai and Indian Wells in recent weeks.

Federer is a two-time champion on Key Biscayne, winning the title there in 2005 and 2006. He last played there in 2014, reaching the quarterfinals. A change in his schedule was cited as the reason why he didn’t play there last year.
