SINGAPORE — It wasn’t just the Slingers who came out in full force, the Singapore fans did too.

Silenced in Game 3 by s small but loud visiting Malaysian contingent in the OCBC Arena here, the Slingers fans also on Sunday were reenergized as the home team came out firing from the get-go.

Close to 3,000 fans were treated to an intense action between fierce rivals Singapore and Malaysia, who faced each other for the fourth time in a week for the ASEAN Basketball League crown.

The Slingers sent what has been an evenly matched best-of-five finals series to a winner-take-all Game 5 with a pulsating 75-73 win decided in the final second.

Wong Weo Long fired a jumper that found the bottom of the net as time expired to give the Slingers, first-timers in the finals, a new lease on life.

And what better way to celebrate what he called “the biggest shot of his career” than in front of their loyal fans.

“That was awesome. I cannot ask for more, there’s a sell out crowd,” Wong, still surrounded by fans wanting to take a photo with him, told Manila-based reporters.

Singapore Slingers co-owner Wee Siew Kim also couldn’t help but speak highly of his team and fans who showed their support.

“I’m so proud of the team. They really came through. I’m really proud of our Singapore spectators. They are out here in force,” Wee told INQUIRER.net.

It was the Malaysians, who made up less than a quarter of the gallery, this time who were stunned as the Dragons missed their first chance to send the Slingers packing and bring home the title.
