‘Frustrated’ Tiamzon benched in UP loss to NU
Nicole Tiamzon is one of University of the Philippines’ captains but on Wednesday, the senior got benched in the final period of the Lady Maroons’ three-set loss to National University.
Errors piled up and on the third-seeded Lady Maroons and their frustrations mounted as they slipped to 7-5 while the Lady Bulldogs improved to 6-6 and posed a threat to the top four teams in fifth.
Tiamzon and fellow captain Kathy Bersola never played in the third set after getting the order to stay on the bench after the second set.
“We were getting frustrated with our errors. We couldn’t correct simple mistakes,” Tiamzon said. “It was frustrating that we couldn’t contribute inside. We wanted to play but we can’t contribute anything.”
UP committed 29 errors to NU’s 27 a small difference but the Lady Maroons allowed 35 points off the Lady Tamaraws’ spikes.
Tiamzon added they have to refocus their sights on their remaining two games instead of getting stagnant on the thought of the Final Four.
“We need to focus on our next two games. If our goal is to make the Final Four, we need to work harder in training.”
