PCBL: Viernes shines as Jumbo five scuttles Foton

SUMMONING his old, explosive form, Jeff Viernes sizzled in the second half as Jumbo Plastic whipped Foton, 79-68, for its second straight victory Wednesday night in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup at Marikina Sports Center.

The former back-to-back Naascu MVP poured 19 of his 24 points in the last two periods, combining with James Martinez in the Linoleum Giants’ blistering finish that sent the Toplander crashing to their second loss in five games.

Martinez fired 20 points for Jumbo, which did without Allwell Oraeme, who quit the team due to personal reasons.

Jumbo Plastic tied its victims with a 3-2 record.

Biyaheng SCTEX also picked up its second straight victory at the expense of Supremo Lex, 69-62.

It was SCTEX’s second win in three outings, moving up to solo second behind idle Mighty Sports.
