FEU upends UP, nails playoff spot
A FEROCIOUS Far Eastern University side subdued University of the Philippines, 17-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14, to secure at least a semifinal playoff in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at Filoil Flying V Center.
Bernadeth Pons topscored with 19 as the Lady Tamaraws rallied to claim third with an 8-5 record.
Remy Palma (15 points), Toni Rose Basas (15 points) and Gyzelle Sy (55 excellent sets) also came through for the Lady Tamaraws.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Lady Maroons fell into a share of fourth at 7-6 with National U, which eliminated the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, 19-25, 25-11, 25-16, 21-25, 15-8.
Only FEU, UP and NU remained in the hunt for the last two semifinal slots after Ateneo and La Salle had secured the top two berths.
Jaja Santiago erupted for 22 points and Myla Pablo added 18 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Maroons boosted their own bid for the last semifinal slot after a 25-22, 25-19, 26-24 triumph over the Tigers to remain fourth at 7-6.
