HOLLYWOOD—As the moment she has been waiting for draws near, Dionisia Pacquiao couldn’t hide her excitement.

“Thanks, I’m happy [that he’s retiring soon],” Dionisia, mother of Manny Pacquiao, told INQUIRER.net after their family’s church service Sunday at Shepherd of the Hills just off Sunset Boulevard here.

Dionisa wouldn’t have to wait long for soon to come. Manny has said his third fight against Timothy Bradley, which is now just less than a week away, would be his swan song.

The infamous mother of Pacquiao has been asking for Manny to retire since 2012 after his heart-wrenching loss to Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez.

But Manny has fought four times since then, including the blockbuster bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr., which he had lost. His bout against Bradley will be the fifth since that Marquez debacle.

If indeed Manny decides to call it a career after Saturday, he is leaving a legacy in the ring that would be hard to match.

For Dionisia, though, it’s a dream come true.

“Manny told me: Mama, what you’ve been waiting for is here. No more problems, your will wish come true. He’s finally stopping,” Dionisia added.
