War of words: Jones and Cormier blast each other on Twitter

UFC stars Jon “Bones” Jones and Daniel “DC” Cormier may no longer be fighting during the main event of UFC 197, but that does not mean these two will be shaking hands anytime soon.

The bitter rivals expressed their mutual disdain for one another with a good old-fashioned Twitter war on Tuesday, after Jones called out the UFC light-heavyweight champion for issuing an open invitation for Ovince Saint Preux—an all expenses paid trip to San Jose and train at American Kickboxing Academy ahead of his interim title fight against Jones on April 23.

“Daniel is an absolute coward who will never beat me,” Jones said on The MMA Hour. “And I say that not from an arrogant place. I say that from a place where, me getting my belt back, it means everything to me”.

“Me losing to OSP should be the last thing that [Cormier] would want, because if I were to somehow lose, that means he doesn’t get to avenge his only loss,”  added the former champion.

Jones, whose televised press conference brawl with DC remains a fixture among fans, did not hold back at all when describing the former Olympic wrestler.

“So, Daniel, man, he’s a mental midget. I’m not worried about Daniel. Obviously him inviting OSP shows that he’s so lucky he’ll be watching from the sidelines and not actually in that cage with me.”

DC responds

Just hours after Jones’ interview with MMAHour, an enraged Cormier responded with a series of expletive-laden tirade directed at his 28-year-old nemesis, referring to his legal issues and calling him a “junkie loser.”

A title-unification bout between Jones and Cormier is expected to occur, if “Bones” gets past St. Preux in three weeks. Khristian Ibarrola, INQUIRER.net
