THE PHILIPPINE Superliga Invitational final round starts today with topnotch Thai club team EST Cola joining the fray with three other local squads at Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
RC Cola-Army coach Emilio “Kungfu” Reyes said the arrival of the youthful EST Cola squad—made up of the Team B of the powerhouse Thailand national squad—will give Philippine volleyball a clear picture of how the country stands against one of the best in the world.
“Volleyball is already popular here but now we get to gauge our level of play and see reality,” said Reyes. “This is one of the best teams in the world. Thailand plays in the FIVB Grand Prix.”
F2 Logistics coach Mayee Prochina, whose wards face EST Cola at 4 p.m., vowed to “give it our best shot” and take advantage of the hometown edge.
Chamnan Dokmai, the EST Cola coach, said he has seen the PSL ALL-Star score an opening set win over Thai club league heavyweight Bangkok Glass.
“I went back to my team and told them that we can’t take this team for granted. Bangkok Glass is a very powerful team. And they took the first set,” said Dokmai.
