Superliga: RC Cola-Army seals title clash with EST

RC Cola-Army and visiting EST Cola of Thailand crushed their respective opponents last night to set the stage for a titular showdown in the Philippine Superliga Invitational Cup at Fil-Oil Flying V Center in San Juan.

EST Cola needed just one blitzkrieg in the third set to frustrate two-time champion Petron, 25-12, 25-12, 25-23, for its second win in as many games. The youthful Thai team will face the Lady Troopers today for the crown.

Earlier, RC Cola-Army imposed its might against F2 Logistics to post their second successive win, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16.

The Tri-Activ Spikers struggled in the first two sets but tested the Thais in the third and led by as much as 14-10 and 23-20.

Srithong Wipawee and Sasiporn Janthawiset, however, combined to score five straight points to put things in order. Sutadtha Chuewulim topscored for EST Cola with 14 points.

“Our objective is to beat EST Cola,” said RC Cola-Army coach Emilio “Kungfu” Reyes. “But we didn’t take the local teams for granted.”

F2 Logistics reeled with 0-2 record in the final round and will try to redeem itself in today’s game against Petron.

“We will try to control the tempo of the game (against EST Cola) because we can’t match them speed for speed,” said Reyes.
