University of the Philippines separated itself from the rest of the field Saturday as it took home its third straight title in the UAAP Street Dance Competition at Mall of Asia Arena.

It was an afternoon worthy of a Pitch Perfect tribute as the Street Dance Club produced a near-perfect Riff Off to the tune of the best hits of the 90s.

Team captain Dindin Casillan said they wanted to have a smooth transition of songs and incorporate their dance steps to it.

“Dugtungan ang dating ng songs, pati transition ng dance steps,” Casillan.

Fellow captain Hideo Enomoto said they practiced nearly everyday and “with God’s grace natapos din.”

From Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby to System of a Down’s Toxicity to Backstreet Boys’ Everybody, UP brought out the 90s more than two decades on.

De La Salle’s, which owned the first two titles, traditional street dance routine led them to second place while University of Santo Tomas’ message-to-voters routine saw them jump from sixth place in Season 77 to third.

Ateneo, the runner-up in Season 77, finished fourth, while Far Eastern University and its bling-and-hiphop routine put it at fifth.

University of the East was sixth and Adamson University finished at seventh.

UP took home a P120,000 winner’s check while Ateneo and UST earned P90,000 and P70,000 respectively.
