THE COUNTRY’S young triathletes try to pull off an upset over the favored Hong Kong squad in the sprint junior elite of the NTT ASTC Subic Bay International Triathlon 2016 today and tomorrow at Subic Bay Freeport.
John Caleb Barlin, Brent Valelo, brothers Justin and Yuan Chiongbian and Vicky Deldio head the local bets in the tournament organized by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines.
Also donning the country’s colors in the mini-sprint (age 13-15) are Lauren Plaza, Nicole Eijansantos, Jana Macalalad, Una Sibayan, Niccolo Neri, Joe Bernard Sarmiento and Carlos Isidro Ilagan.
The country’s promising swim-bike-run racers likewise aim to boost their bids in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
Meanwhile, race organizers said the top three elite male and female winners will undergo a doping test in compliance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada).
A total cash prize of $5,000 will be up for grabs in the elite category.
