It takes three set wins to settle a volleyball match, but for Cyd Demecillo on Sunday it took her two wrong turns in the fifth set.
Demecillo had a chance to salvage De La Salle University from a thrilling upset but her final hits in their semifinal match against Far Eastern University were costly.
La Salle had a twice-to-beat advantage but the Lady Spikers lost that privilege after losing to the Lady Tamaraws, 15-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 16-14, and Demecillo didn’t blame anyone but herself
“Siyempre masakit kasi ilang games na lang tapos natalo pa, medyo bine-blame ko sarili ko (It was really a painful loss and I somehow blame myself for it),” Demecillo said Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
“I will bounce back. It’s now or never, it’s do-or-die
With the fifth set tied at 14-14, Demecillo had the chance to give La Salle the advantage but her first hit went straight to the net and her second one, also counted as an error, was quite controversial.
Demecillo had three Lady Tamaraws in front of her and she claimed it her hit should’ve been a check ball that would’ve awarded a point for La Salle
“Nagugulat ako kasi ang bilis ng pangyayari, check eh, tingin ko talaga check yun (I was surprised because it all happened so fast. I really though it was a check ball),” Demecillo said.
“May tinamaan eh, nasa gitna nagba-block tatlo imposibleng ganun kamay ng mga blocker (The ball definitely hit something because it was in the middle and there were three blockers. It would be impossible that it didn’t hit anything because the blockers’ arms were like this,” said Demecillo, who spread her arms wide.
