ARMED with more confidence, Far Eastern University looks to complete a semifinal upset of powerhouse La Salle in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday.
“I think we have the momentum,” said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos. “We already showed that we can beat them.”
The Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Spikers, who are vying for an eighth straight Finals appearance, dispute the last title berth at 4 p.m. at Mall of Asia Arena.
Adamson also hopes to overcome the twice-to-beat edge of No. 2 National University in the men’s semifinal match at 2 p.m.
The winners will go up against defending champion Ateneo, whose men and women’s teams easily clinched the first championship slots.
With their season on the line, the Lady Tamaraws incredibly rallied from two sets down to shock the Lady Spikers, 15-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21,16-14, last Sunday.
Bernadeth Pons, Remy Palma and Toni Rose Basas keyed FEU’s surprise turnaround that reduced the Lady Spikers to an error-prone crew.
La Salle standout Kim Dy, who fired 20 points in her last outing, expects the Lady Spikers to come out focused to sustain their Finals streak.
“[The team] talked that we’ll go out there with our heads up and we’ll bounce back,” said Dy, who has been backstopping La Salle’s star trio of Ara Galang, Mika Reyes and Kim Fajardo.
