MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota—The Minnesota Timberwolves have hired former Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau as coach and president of basketball operations.

San Antonio Spurs assistant GM Scott Layden is coming along to be the general manager in Minnesota. The team announced the moves Wednesday night.

Thibodeau was the most coveted coach on the market. He won nearly 65 percent of his games in five seasons with the Bulls.

Wolves owner Glen Taylor says they quickly identified Thibodeau as the best leader available to take charge of a team with one of the most promising young rosters in the NBA.

Layden is a former GM with the New York Knicks and Utah Jazz.
