Guiao’s trust pays dividends for Rain or Shine

Truth be told, trust has been the biggest factor in Rain or Shine’s string of success.

With able bodies ready to step up at any given time, coach Yeng Guiao is confident with whoever he pulls from his bench to help the Elasto Painters grab victories.

On Tuesday, that trust was once again put to the test when Guiao had to attend to his political duties in Pampanga and leave the team at the hands of deputy Caloy Garcia.

Still, the fiery coach had no doubt that his crew will perform at its best. And Rain or Shine did, pulling off the 98-96 thriller against San Miguel to move a win away from a return trip to the Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

“After na ng game, tinawagan ko si coach Yeng. Sabi nya lang, good job,” shared Garcia.

Though the head coach was just able to see the game’s waning moments on TV, when Marcio Lassiter almost stunned the E-Painters if not for his late release on his game-winner, the assistant coach said that Guiao was happy with the way things turned out.

“He told me na diskarte ko na yung game. He told me to remind the players to keep on running because that’s the only way we can beat San Miguel. We can’t settle on the half-court game against them. That’s the only thing he told me, the rest, diskarte ko na daw,” Garcia continued.

Rain or Shine can complete the sweep with a win against the Beermen on Thursday at Philsports Arena.
