Championships worth more than MVP awards for Espejo

Ateneo’s Marck Espejo is just in his third season in the UAAP but the outside spiker has built up a trophy case worth envying.

Espejo on Wednesday became a three-time champion and a two-time MVP but the Blue Eagle is more concerned with his team’s glory than his own.

“Ayoko talaga nang award, mas gusto ko ng gold,” Espejo said after his Blue Eagles swept National University 25-16, 25-20, 25-19 for their second straight title.

Espejo was quick to shrug off his individual honors, which also included his Best Server and Best Spiker awards, instead putting the attention to his team.

“Yung special siguro nag back-to-back kami, yung rewards sa team talaga, di ko to ma achieve kung mag isa,” Espejo said.

He added the MVP award is not just for his team but for his team.

“Yung award para sa team, di ko siya ina accept personally, di ko to matatanggap pag di kami nanalo.”
