GALLERY: La Salle wins back UAAP volleyball crown, beats Ateneo
A championship was promised and the celebration happened on Saturday night.
After falling short to regain their status as champions the past two seasons, the De La Salle Lady Spikers finally conquered their fiercest rivals Ateneo Lady Eagles, needing only four sets, 19-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-16, in a deciding Game 3 to win their ninth UAAP title overall in women’s volleyball.
The Lady Spikers rode the efforts of Finals MVP Kim Dy, Mika Reyes, Mary Joy Baron and Cyd Demecillo to overcome the determined Lady Eagles and their graduating superstar Alyssa Valdez, who gave whatever she has left to finish with 31 points in her final UAAP game.
The fitting finale to another successful volleyball season in the UAAP saw a crowd of 22,848 cheering, screaming and celebrating at the historic Araneta Coliseum.
