La Salle set to bag UAAP overall plum

AFTER bagging its sixth championship this season, La Salle looks all set to reclaim the UAAP general championship even with one more sporting event to go.

The Lady Spikers captured the women’s volleyball crown last weekend, adding to La Salle’s titles in baseball, men and women’s table tennis, women’s beach volleyball and women’s chess.

La Salle already edged last year’s overall champion University of Santo Tomas in an unofficial tally with the football tournament still unfinished.

UST copped four titles in men’s taekwondo, poomsae, women’s judo and women’s athletics.

The league, which awards 15 points to champion teams, will release the official tally after the men and women’s football Finals.

It will be the third time La Salle will topple UST, the perennial winner with 40 general championships.

La Salle won its first overall crown in 2013 and pulled off a repeat the following year, before UST reclaimed the title in 2015.

La Salle also has a strong candidate for the league’s Athlete of the Year in Ian Lariba, the women’s table tennis star who earned a slot in the comings Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Lariba powered the Lady Archers to a perfect season and clinched a third straight MVP.
