MANILA, Philippines – True sportsmanship can be seen on the core values and virtues athletes develop and live by as they relentlessly train and compete. With hard work and dedication, sportsmen also cultivate discipline, work ethic, and mental toughness, among other qualities.
Aiming to uplift the value of sportsmanship in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), Chooks-to-Go—the largest roasted chicken retail business in the country—will support the basketball sports program of the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons senior men’s basketball team throughout their UAAP Season 79 campaign.
“We will support the pre-season games and training as well as the entire campaign of the UP Fighting Maroons in the 79th UAAP season. This involves full merchandising, meal provisions, life-coaching, and personal development of the team and staff as we encourage the players to be shining examples of true sportsmanship, on and off the court,” said Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc. (BAVI) president and general manager Ronald Mascariñas. BAVI operates Chooks-to-Go.
Mascariñas and the UP Fighting Maroons officials, led by team manager Dan Palami, announced the partnership during a press launch. Dan Palami claimed that the UP Fighting Maroons, led by veterans Jet Manuel, Kyles Lao, and Henry Asilum, will aim for a final four spot in the upcoming UAAP tournament.
Alongside Mascariñas were BAVI assistant vice president for North Luzon operations and team liaison Paul Tiangco and brand supervisor Jose Montes—all of who are alumni of the state-owned university, which made the partnership even more significant for both parties.
A formidable reinforcement
As a part of its thrust of giving back to the community, Chooks-to-Go’s support of the UP Fighting Maroons’ basketball program is one way of uplifting and promoting the value of true sportsmanship in the collegiate tournament.
“Our success as a company is only meaningful if we are able to share it with other people. That is why we are excited with this partnership because it allows us to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of young athletes, one of our own, with the hopes of spreading the values we promote to others even further,” said Mascariñas.
With a strong partnership and an even better start to the upcoming games, expect an empowered squad of basketball players guided by the values of sportsmanship—as together with Chooks-to-Go, the UP Fighting Maroons are off to face their UAAP Season 79 campaign with a loud bang. ADVT
