Wilson Baltazar scored 17 points to help Lyceum upset NCAA semifinalist Mapua, 91-82, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Baltazar, the starting forward for Lyceum, provided the Pirates a threat from the outside making most of his baskets from the perimeter.
But it wasn’t just Baltazar who got going for Lyceum with five other Pirates scoring at least eight points.
“It’s a complete team effort. We really want to depend on everyone’s contribution. As much as possible, we don’t want to depend on just one player,” said Lyceum head coach Topex Robinson, whose team won only four games to finish second to the last in the 91st NCAA Season.
Guard Jesper Ayaay added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Jebb Bulawan had 13, while Dexter Zamora came off the bench and shot 10 points as the Pirates drew contributions from across the board.
Joseph Gabayni and Shaq Alanes chipped in eight points apiece.
Lyceum joined La Salle and University of the East as the early winners in Group B.
Allwell Oraeme, the reigning NCAA MVP, led the Cardinals with 10 points and 24 rebounds.
