JOVELYN Gonzaga, the country’s top beach volleyball star, teams up with veteran Nerissa Bautista when the 2016 Philippine Superliga (PSL) Challenge Cup beach volleyball tournament kicks off tomorrow at the Sands at SM By the Bay of the Mall of Asia complex in Pasay.
Gonzaga of RC Cola-Army isn’t taking any chances against the talented field in the tournament backed by Petron, Foton and Accel with TV5 as official broadcast partner.
“We cannot take other teams for granted,” said Gonzaga, who has yet to lose a major beach volley tournament hereabouts.
The biggest threat to Gonzaga and Bautista could come from Foton’s Cherry Rondina and Patty Orendain, and reigning champion Danika Gendrauli and new partner Aby Maraño of F2 Logistics.
“Since I’m teaming up with Danika, my confidence is high,” said Maraño, an indoor volleyball specialist.
Norie Jane Diaz, Gendrauli’s foremer partner, teams up with Pau Soriano for Philippine Navy. Petron XCS has the veteran duo of Bang Pineda and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas while Accel Quantum Plus is banking on Aileen Abuel and Princess Listana.
