San Sebastian College put the defensive hammer down on the shaken College of St. Benilde to notch its first win, 59-46, Saturday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at San Juan Arena.

It was an uneventful matchup on the offensive end as the Golden Stags charged with horns upfront holding down the Blazers to a disastrous 29 percent shooting clip (16-of-56) from the field.

CSB was also denied entry to rainbow country as the Blazers only made one three-pointer out of 11 attempts.

Golden Stags head coach Egay Macaraya said he wants to put a premium on defense to suit his players’ builds.

“Defense first? Right now yes, subukan namin, as all my teams naman focus first on defense,” said Macaraya whose lineup is one of the shortest in the preseason tournament. “Kasi yun kailangan ko sa lineup ng Baste.”

Undersized power forward Michael Calisaan led the Golden Stags with 15 points while Alfren Gayosa had 14 points and six rebounds.

No Blazer scored in double figures with Yankee Haruna and Rene Sta. Maria each scoring nine points apiece for CSB, which fell to 0-2 after losing to National University last Wednesday.
